From Intercare, here are nine quick tips for parents to help their children navigate Halloween!
1. For those not able to say Happy Halloween or Trick-or-Treat, try using communication cards.
2. Go for a simple costume (avoid masks or capes).
3. Help explain the concept of Halloween with the following movies: Casper, Halloweentown, or It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
4. Sensory-friendly party at home!
5. Don't confuse your nighttime routine, go trick-or-treating right after dinner.
6. Create and neighborhood map and have your child cross them off as you go.
7. Go with friends your child loves!
8. Carry a flashlight and/or earplugs to ensure your child doesn't get over-stimulated.
9. Have fun and feel no pressure to go out.
